Surrounded by his loving family, and kitty Sylvester, Dr. Guy J. Hale, 82, of Fort Myers, FL,
ascended to heaven at 12:24 A.M. Saturday, May 28, 2022.
He was born on December 7, 1939, in Greencastle, Indiana.
Guy was wed to Linda J. Doughty on April 25, 1964, in Tarkio, Missouri; they shared in wedded
bliss for 48 years. Guy and Linda retired to Fort Myers, Florida in 2005, after 40 years of residence
in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Guy graduated from Indiana State University with a B.A. in Mathematics and continued on to receive
a M.S Degree from the University of Missouri and Doctorate from Indiana University.
He taught Mathematics and Computer Science at Indiana State University (ISU) for 36 years. He was
one of the primary designers of the original Computer Science major at ISU, developed the microcomputer
lab within the Mathematics & Computer Science programs, and co-authored numerous textbooks on
mathematics and computer programming.
Guy received the Caleb Mills Distinguished Teaching Award and
dedicated a major part of his life to the teaching profession.
He was a longtime member of the Masonic Grand Lodge, Shriners, and Scottish Rite. Some of his other
interests included: travel, going to the beach, reading, and cars/mechanics. After retiring to Florida,
he tremendously enjoyed relaxing and walking on the beach. For a number of years, Guy enjoyed flying, he
had his own plane. Throughout his entire life, he was very fond of animals and considered his pets as
part of his family.
Guy was survived by daughter April J. Chroniak, San Antonio, TX; daughter Nicole J. Hale, Fort Myers,
Florida; grandson Samuel H. Chroniak, San Antonio, Texas; and his beloved cat Sylvester
(i.e. his "little buddy"), Fort Myers, Florida.
Guy was preceded in eternal rest by his beloved wife
Linda, and parents Lester Wayne and Eva Mae Hale of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Visitation is being held on Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M. Funeral services are scheduled
for Sunday, June 5, at 3:00 P.M. Both the visitation and funeral will be at the Newkirk Funeral Home,
8195 E. Main St., Dugger, Indian. The interment will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery near Dugger, Indiana. The
service will be officiated by Judith Hatt, and a special remembrance will be offered by Debbie Silverberg Amigo.
I well remember Dr Hale in the Mathematics and Computer Science Dept. at Indiana State University, where I
was an undergraduate student in the 1980s. I especially remember his superior instruction and counsel in
the ISU Summer Honors program in 1983. Dr. Hale essentially founded the Computer Science program at ISU,
was an obvious intellectual genius, but also was approachable with a sense of humor and pleasing personality.
Such people are extremely scarce in this world, and his passing is a great loss for academia and society
in general.
I offer sincere condolences and prayers to the family on Dr. Hale's passing. God bless.

I am the resurrection and the Life, Saith the Lord:
He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet
shall he live:
and whosoever liveth and believeth in
me shall never die.
I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall
stand at the latter day upon the earth:
and though his body be destroyed, yet shall I see GOD:
whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and
not as a stranger.
We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain
we can carry nothing out.
The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be
the name of the LORD. AMEN
