Native son, David Lynn Pearce passed away last week. David Lynn was born on
August 16, 1938 to David Reese Pearce and Nola Joyce Lunt of Beaver, Utah. He was born
in Cedar City, Utah
After graduation form Beaver High School, David Lynn was recruited by Coach Tony Knapp as a
halfback for the Utah State Aggies. After his sophomore year he was called to serve an LDS
Mission. That service to the Lord took him to Argentina and Chile at a time when there was
only one mission in southern South America. Upon his return, he finished his football career
with Coach John Ralston playing on the same team with Merlin Olsen, Lionel Aldridge and others
of his team who went on to professional football. David graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Health Education and Physical Education in 1964. He got his Master’s Degree in 1969
while serving as head football coach at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
David Lynn had returned to his hometown of Beaver, Utah after retiring as a safety engineer
on large construction projects. He started his career as a teacher/coach first in Snowflake,
Arizona, then in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1968, he was hired for the inaugural staff for
Central Arizona College in Casa Grande, Arizona as the first track and wrestling coach.
He moved the family from Idaho with the assignment to plan for a football program for CAC.
When the college decided against a football program, Dave left teaching/coaching and came to
Miami, Arizona where he spent twenty years at a local mine as a safety engineer. He was then
hired as the safety engineer for the historic Roosevelt Dam reconstruction and then was in
demand for huge projects all over the U.S. His last project was the remarkable project at
Diamond Lake in Hemet, California, where three earthen dams now contain potable water for
much of southern California.
David Lynn Pearce is survived by his spouse Linda; son David John (Shelley) of Prescott, Arizona;
daughters Lisa Lynn Blodgett (David) of Cedar City, Utah and Laura Pearce of Miami, Arizona.
His grandchildren are: David Reese, Rhett, and Emma Pearce of Prescott, Ariaona; and Hannah,
Rachel and David Terry Blodgett of Cedar City, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 10:00 am at the LDS First Ward in
Beaver, Utah. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Southern
Utah Mortuary.
