Hurls No-Hitter

Pearce Leads Mates to Title; Class A Nines Clash Today.

Raven-haired Ray Pearce, who won all-state basketball honors two months ago when Beaver placed second in the state tournament, pitched a no-hit, no-run game Wednesday afternoon which enabled the Beavers to tuck away the baseball championship of region six. The beavers defeated Hurricane, 6 – 0, at Beaver.

Pearce struck out 10 of the Hurricanes, lashed out a triple and batted in three runs. The victory shoved Beaver into the state class B semifinals. They will entertain the Jordan division champion, probably Cyprus, next Thursday, May 13, at Beaver.

All Tied Up

In region three, Payson and Juab ended league play all tied up for first place, each having three victories, one defeat. Payson scored nine runs in the fifth inning to overtake Springville and defeat the Red Devils, 11 – 9, at Payson Wednesday afternoon, while Juab took advantage of Spanish Fork errors to nip the Dons, 3 – 2, at Spanish Fork.

Payson and Juab must settle their tie in the very near future, so that the region three champ can meet Monroe, region four champion, next Thursday in region three, in the Class B semifinal battle. The state class B championship has been set for May 18, at a site to be selected.

Three other class B games were written into the books Wednesday, none having much bearing on conference standings. Bingham thumped Morgan, 19 -2, five innings of play, while Tooele registered a 10 – 4 win over Murray. In region three, Carbon lost its first fame of the season, going down before B. Y. High, 14 – 8.

Class A Battles

Class A nines get their first big tests Thursday, with four games on deck in the Big Nine and three in Region one, together with a pair of tilts in the Jordan Division.
