Shirley Jane Cox (Van Gerven)

April 15, 1929 - November 22, 2010

Shirley Jane Cox Van Gerven was born April 15, 1929 in Beaver, Utah and passed away November 22, 2010 with both of her girls at her side. She was the daughter of Theodore McKinley Cox and Vona R. Easton Cox. She married George Van Gerven in 1968. He passed away in 1992.

Shirley loved her family and loved to travel. She was an exceptional homemaker and her home was always immaculate. She loved to spend time with her family.

After graduating from high school she worked much of her life as a secretary. She was active in the LDS Church and served in many positions. She was also a natural care giver. That talent led her to volunteer as a grandmother at the American Fork Developmental Center doing what she loved to do. She took care of patients and learned to love them as much as her own children. She was always concerned about Cheryl while she was in the hospital, who was one of her patients. Cheryl also loved her.

Shirley is survived by her two children, Gayle Lynn Anderson (Gary) and Trudy Anderson (Richard). She is further survived by her brother, Jim Cox, her sister and brother-in-law, Lena Rae and Lee Rogers, and brother-in-law, Robert Lee. She also leaves many nieces and nephews along with 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Van Gerven, her parents, her sister, Colleen Lee, her sister-in-law, Durell Cox, and Stone Christian Anderson, her great grandson.

Services will be held on Friday November 26th at the Aspen 2nd Ward located at 828 West 1600 North in Orem. A viewing will be held there at 9:00 am prior to the 10:00 am funeral. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at the Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, Utah.

Mom will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. We love her. The family would like to thank all of the medical staff at the South Salt Lake Regional Medical Center for her good care. Christine Sink, Shirley's friend, was invaluable to her and her family during her 10 week illness.
